[Financial News] As South Korea opened the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) with a win in its first game, attention has turned to the necklace worn by team captain Jung Hoo Lee of the San Francisco Giants.
Led by manager Ryu Ji-hyun, the South Korea national baseball team defeated Czechia 11–4 in the first Group C game of the WBC group stage at Tokyo Dome on the 5th.
Batting third in the lineup, Jung Hoo Lee started the game and contributed to the victory with two hits in four at-bats.
Lee drew attention by taking the field that day wearing a necklace featuring a four-leaf clover motif.
Overseas outlets including Yahoo Sports Japan reported that the necklace Lee wore became a major talking point among Japanese fans.
The piece he wore is believed to be from the Vintage Alhambra collection by French luxury jewelry house Van Cleef & Arpels.
The model in question is a "10 Motifs" necklace featuring ten linked four-leaf clover designs in black onyx. It is currently listed at 15.5 million won on the official Van Cleef & Arpels website.
Recently, the same model worn by Lee has reportedly caught on as a kind of "good-luck charm" among star players in Major League Baseball (MLB), spreading like a trend.
Meanwhile, Van Cleef & Arpels raised prices on some of its products by 2–5% on the 5th.
With this increase, the price of its signature Frivole Pendant, Small Model (diamond) climbed about 4.8%, from 16.5 million won to 17.3 million won. The Vintage Alhambra 5 Motifs Bracelet (diamond) went up from 27.1 million won to 28.4 million won.
The Vintage Alhambra pendant, mother-of-pearl, was adjusted from 4.91 million won to 5.05 million won, a 2.9% rise. The Vintage Alhambra pendant, onyx, increased about 2.1%, from 4.67 million won to 4.77 million won.
This is the second price hike by Van Cleef & Arpels this year, following an increase of about 6% on its high jewelry pieces on January 7.
