[Financial News] An anecdote has gone viral about Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics, helping the host take photos during a state dinner for Brazil.
Gorito, who hosted the Korea–Brazil summit, says "‘Jae Dragon’ kindly took my picture"
On the 6th, Brazilian TV personality Carlos Gorito shared on his social media an episode about meeting Lee at the Yeongbingwan State Guest House at the former presidential Blue House during last month’s Korea–Brazil state dinner. The dinner was held to mark the state visit of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Gorito, known for his appearances on JTBC (Joongang Tongyang Broadcasting Company)’s talk show "Non-Summit," served as the master of ceremonies.
Gorito wrote, "Maybe I was overwhelmed by how glamorous the event was, but my Samsung Galaxy smartphone suddenly felt like it had gone back in time. It could make calls, send texts and play games, but it was hard to take any photos," adding, "So I gathered my courage and asked the person who knows the Samsung Galaxy smartphone better than anyone for help."
He continued, "He showed me that his own smartphone was working just fine and offered to take photos and email them to me," explaining that this person volunteered to shoot the pictures and send them later by email.
The "person who knows the Samsung Galaxy smartphone better than anyone" Gorito mentioned turned out to be Lee himself. Gorito added, "That person was none other than Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung," noting that he took the opportunity to thank Lee for the Samsung Scholarship he received in 2010 and for other support.
"I studied on a Samsung Scholarship... it was deeply moving" — photo released
At the end of his post, Gorito reflected in Korean that he had served as host at the state dinner for the Brazilian president’s visit to Korea and there met Chairman Lee Jae-yong. He wrote that the foreign student who once studied on a Samsung Scholarship had grown up enough to meet "Jae Dragon," as Lee is nicknamed, and that it was an emotionally overwhelming day. In the photo he shared, Lee stands next to Gorito, smiling and giving a thumbs-up.
On the 23rd of last month, Lee met President Lula together with Chung Eui-sun of Hyundai Motor Group, Koo Kwang-mo of LG Corporation and HD Hyundai chairman Jeong Ki-seon to discuss cooperation on tapping Latin American markets, with Brazil as a key entry point.
Lee and the other business leaders also attended the Korea–Brazil Business Forum hosted by the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) at Lotte Hotel in Jung District, Seoul, where they had a tea meeting with President Lula. They later joined President Yoon and President Lula at the state dinner held at the Yeongbingwan State Guest House, where SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won also took part.
