[Financial News] Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yun-cheol held an expanded senior officials’ meeting at Government Complex Sejong on the 6th, attended by both vice ministers of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF), directors-general of each office and bureau, and key division heads.
Koo Yun-cheol noted that external uncertainty is growing due to recent developments in the Middle East. He asked the relevant MOEF offices and bureaus to continuously monitor trends in the financial and foreign exchange markets as well as the real economy, and to take preemptive measures whenever a response is deemed necessary.
He stressed the need for close management so that such external shocks do not translate into heavier burdens on people’s livelihoods, for example through higher oil prices. He also emphasized that public officials should maintain the highest standards in the performance of their duties.
In addition, he encouraged continued efforts to address livelihood issues such as prices and real estate, and to identify tasks needed to realize a super-innovative economy. He further called on officials to pay attention to youth and regional issues and to listen broadly to voices on the ground, so that they can develop practical and effective policy alternatives.
Koo Yun-cheol also stated that for MOEF to lead the government’s AI Transformation (AX) and enhance work productivity, developing employees’ Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities is a key task. He specifically ordered the implementation of short-term intensive training programs for staff.
He also expressed appreciation for the hard work of ministry staff. Koo Yun-cheol congratulated and encouraged Yu Kyung-suk and Heo Chang-hyeok, officials at the Office of Planning & Coordination, and Seong-jin Choi, an official at the Public Policy Bureau, who were selected as outstanding employees under the ministry’s monthly “Small but Certain Happiness” recognition program for January and February. He asked that reward measures be prepared for employees and departments that have worked hard in the process of formulating and announcing various policy packages.
