According to Financial News, a man in the United States of America (U.S.) who had been campaigning for a traffic light at the intersection where his wife was killed in a car accident has now died in a crash at the very same location.
On the 2nd (local time), local outlets including 9News reported that two vehicles collided at an intersection in Greenwood Village, Colorado, leaving one man dead.
Back in May 2024, Andie Goldberg, 59, was struck by a vehicle and killed at this intersection. Since then, her husband, 82-year-old Gerry Goldberg, had been leading a petition drive calling for a traffic light to be installed there, the reports said.
Tragically, it was later confirmed that the victim of the latest collision was none other than her husband, Gerry Goldberg, a revelation that has deeply shocked the local community.
On the day of the accident, he was on his way to meet a cousin for lunch. The cousin, who eventually left after waiting for him at the restaurant, reportedly learned of the fatal crash only later.
In an interview with 9News last November, Gerry said, "After going through my wife's death, I kept thinking about how strongly I feel that something like this should never happen to anyone else again."
He also stated, "If this leads to positive change, I will feel that her death was not in vain," adding, "It would be a great help in finding some peace of mind."
During his lifetime, he launched a petition campaign called "Andy's Light," named after his wife, and strongly urged the expansion of safety infrastructure at the intersection.
Residents in the surrounding area likewise said that the intersection in question has long been a hotspot for frequent traffic accidents.
Greenwood Village authorities are reportedly still reviewing the proposal to install a traffic light at the site.
