[Financial News] Pop star Britney Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and later released, according to reports.
On the 6th (local time), several U.S. outlets, including The Associated Press (AP) and NBC News, reported that on the 4th Spears was taken into custody by the Highway Patrol Unit in Ventura, California, in the State of California. Officers had responded to a report of a speeding vehicle driving recklessly in the area.
According to the reports, Spears underwent a field sobriety and breath test at the scene before being transported to a Ventura County jail. She was released at around 6 a.m. the following day, and her vehicle was reportedly towed.
A spokesperson for Spears stated, "This incident is an absolutely unacceptable and regrettable matter," adding, "Britney will take the appropriate steps in accordance with the law, and we hope this will mark the first step toward the long-needed changes in her life."
The Ventura County District Attorney's Office is expected to review whether to file charges, and Spears is scheduled to appear in court on May 4. She was previously charged in 2007 in connection with a hit-and-run accident that caused property damage.
