With the film "The King's Warden" on the verge of surpassing 10 million moviegoers, tourists are flocking in droves to Cheongnyeongpo Ferry Dock in Yeongwol County, one of its main filming locations. In response, Gangwon State has launched an emergency safety inspection to prevent accidents.
Gangwon State Government announced on the 6th that it would conduct a joint "special safety inspection of excursion ship business sites" today with Yeongwol County to ensure safe use of Cheongnyeongpo Ferry Dock, where tourist numbers have surged due to the film's popularity. During the Lunar New Year holiday alone, more than 11,000 people visited Cheongnyeongpo Ferry Dock in Yeongwol County, five times the usual figure, and from February 28 to March 2, some 14,800 people came over the three-day weekend, underscoring the urgent need to strengthen safety management.
The special inspection will focus on whether life-saving and safety equipment are properly installed and whether passenger capacity limits on the ferries are being observed, as well as overall compliance with safety-related regulations. If any violations are found, the province plans to take immediate administrative measures, including issuing corrective orders, under the Excursion Ship and Ferry Business Act.
Kim Juhwan, Director of Social Disaster Management at Gangwon State Government, stated, "We will continue to respond swiftly and proactively at sites where there are potential disaster risks so that tourists visiting Gangwon State can create safe and lasting memories."
