Trump Says US Will Take Part in Choosing Iran’s Next Leader, Rules Out Khamenei’s Son

Financial News, New York City – Correspondent Lee Byung-chul.US President Donald Trump has publicly stated that the United States of America (US) could take part in the process of selecting the Islamic Republic of Iran’s next leader.
His remarks came after the death of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s supreme leader in airstrikes by the US and the State of Israel, as the war rapidly spreads across the Middle East. Trump was effectively signaling a willingness to intervene in the reshaping of the Iranian regime.
In an interview with Reuters on the 5th local time, President Trump said, "We want to be part of the process of choosing the leader who will guide Iran in the future." He added, "We don’t need to be doing this every five years," and stressed, "We need a good leader for both the people and the country."
He specifically commented on Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Ali Khamenei and a leading contender to succeed him, saying that his chances were "unlikely." Mojtaba Khamenei, known for his hardline stance, has long been cited as one of the main candidates to become the next supreme leader.
The war has entered its sixth day and is spreading quickly across the Middle East. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) warned residents in parts of eastern Tehran and other areas to evacuate, and reports continued to emerge of explosions throughout the capital.
A resident of Tehran said, "Today the situation is more serious than yesterday," adding, "Northern Tehran is under attack, and it is no different from a battlefield."
Retaliatory strikes by the Islamic Republic of Iran are also continuing. Air-raid sirens sounded in the State of Israel and in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), while in the Kingdom of Bahrain a missile attack triggered a fire at an oil refinery.
The conflict appears to be spilling over into neighboring countries as well. The Republic of Azerbaijan claimed that the Islamic Republic of Iran had launched drones toward its territory and closed its southern airspace for 12 hours. Iran denied the allegation, but the incident is seen as evidence that the war is rapidly escalating into a wider regional conflict.
Meanwhile, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting was hacked the same day, and a speech by exiled former crown prince Reza Pahlavi was aired. In the video, Pahlavi declared, "We will walk this path together until final victory," delivering an explicit anti-government message.
