According to Financial News, videos of the CEOs of Burger King and McDonald's doing "mukbang"—eating on camera—to promote their new burgers are drawing attention on social media.
On the 5th, the New York Post reported that the previous day McDonald's CEO and chairman Chris Kempczinski posted a video of himself in his office eating the new "Big Arch Burger."
In the video, after taking a bite of the Big Arch Burger, Kempczinski says, "I really like this product. It tastes great." However, viewers were taken aback by how cautiously he bit into the burger.
Comments included, "Did he even really take a bite?", "He looks scared of taking one bite", "He looks like someone eating a hamburger for the first time", "He looks like he doesn't want to eat it", and "He probably spat it out after the filming ended."
A few days later, Burger King president Tom Curtis uploaded a video to social media showing himself taking a big bite out of a newly introduced Whopper. This Whopper had actually been launched a few days earlier than McDonald's Big Arch Burger.
The clip quickly went viral, and users reacted by saying, "Truly worthy of the king of burgers", "McDonald's, take note—Burger King wins", and "This is how you eat like a real man."
McDonald's Big Arch Burger features two beef patties, three slices of white cheddar cheese, crispy onions, fresh onion slices, lettuce, pickles, and Big Arch sauce. It is available for a limited time.
The upgraded Whopper from Burger King keeps the original components but adds a premium bun, improved-taste mayonnaise, and a box-style package designed so the burger will not get squashed.
