[Financial News] The police will dispatch a six-member rapid response team to the Middle East, where uncertainty has grown following attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel.
The Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) announced in a press notice on the 5th that, "In coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we plan to dispatch a six-member joint government rapid response team, including local experts, at 12:10 a.m. on the 6th, with three members going to the Sultanate of Oman and three to Dubai."
The KNPA operates a personnel pool for the Rapid Response Team for the Protection of Overseas Koreans, which is designed to respond quickly to emergencies abroad. The pool consists of 156 members across seven areas, including counterterrorism. When a relevant ministry requests support, personnel are dispatched, and this deployment was made at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Accordingly, the rapid response team will be sent to the region jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will handle administrative support, including departure procedures for Korean nationals. However, the timing of their return to Korea has not yet been determined.
Earlier, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the KNPA, the National Intelligence Service (NIS), and other relevant agencies to "immediately dispatch a rapid response team if the situation worsens and prepare transport plans in advance so that Korean nationals staying in the region can return home safely."
