Jongga, a brand of Daesang Corporation, announced on the 5th that its limited-edition seasonal kimchi product, "Jongga Bomdong Geotjeori spring cabbage kimchi," has sold more than 20,000 packs in just two months since its launch, boosted by the recent "bomdong bibimbap" craze. In terms of weight, this amounts to about 22 tons.
"Jongga Bomdong Geotjeori spring cabbage kimchi" is made by seasoning domestically grown bomdong, a spring cabbage that stores sugars over the winter, giving it a mildly sweet, nutty flavor and a crisp texture. Eaten fresh, it delivers the natural, sweet and savory taste of bomdong, while a short period of fermentation adds a refreshing umami note.
The product is an ideal topping for "bomdong bibimbap," which has recently taken over social networking service (SNS) algorithms. It also pairs well with warm rice, or as a side dish to rich, oily foods such as meat dishes or pan-fried jeon, allowing consumers to fully enjoy the bright, seasonal flavor of bomdong.
Jongga Bomdong Geotjeori spring cabbage kimchi will be available through March on major online channels, including Daesang’s official online mall Jungwon e-Shop, the Jongga Naver Brand Store, Coupang, and Kurly.
Park Kwan-woo, Head of K Marketing Planning Team 1 at Daesang Corporation, said, "We will continue to launch differentiated, limited-edition seasonal products that maximize the taste of seasonal ingredients, reflecting rapidly changing consumption trends and diverse consumer preferences."
Meanwhile, Jongga has been introducing a variety of specialty kimchi products using seasonal vegetables, such as Young Cabbage and Young Radish Kimchi and Oi-sobagi (stuffed cucumber kimchi), in line with the trend of consumers seeking new kimchi flavor experiences.
