[The Financial News] Following the deaths of U.S. troops in the joint U.S.-Israel military campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran, American social media users have begun calling for Barron Trump, the youngest son of U.S. President Donald John Trump, to join the military.
According to U.S. outlets including USA Today and The Daily Beast on the 3rd (local time), the hashtag "#SendBarron" urging Barron, the president’s youngest son, to enlist is rapidly gaining traction on social media in the United States.
Critics are asking, "If this war is justified, shouldn’t the president’s own son also serve?" and arguing that Barron, who lives at the White House and attends NYU Washington, DC, should go to war as well. Alongside the hashtag, users have been posting doctored images of Barron wearing a military uniform or with his hair cut short.
Toby Morton, an American comedian and writer, has also launched a satirical website titled DraftBarronTrump.com, calling for Barron Trump to be drafted. The site went live around the time news of U.S. military casualties first broke, and mocks the war and political leaders with the message, "America is strong because its leaders are strong. President Trump proves that every day, and his son Barron is ready to defend the country his father so bravely leads."
Online discussions have also resurfaced the fact that President Trump received multiple draft deferments during the Vietnam War, citing academic and health reasons.
Barron, born in 2006, is the youngest son among Donald Trump and Melania Trump’s three sons and two daughters. He has never publicly expressed any intention to serve in the military and is known to keep a very low public profile.
