On the 3rd (local time), Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social, saying, "The United States Navy (USN) will begin escorting oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible." He went on, "Effective immediately, I have directed the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to provide political risk insurance and guarantees, at very reasonable prices, for all shipping through the Persian Gulf region, especially for energy transport." He stressed, "This measure will apply to all shipping companies." He added, "Under no circumstances will the US fail to guarantee the free flow of energy to the entire world." On rising oil prices, he said, "As soon as this is over, oil prices will go down, and they could even fall to lower levels."
Mohammad Akbarzadeh, deputy navy commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), warned on the 4th that the IRGC Navy has full control over the Strait of Hormuz on the Iranian side and will attack any vessel that attempts to pass without authorization. He claimed, "More than 10 oil tankers that ignored repeated warnings have been hit by various missile attacks and have gone up in flames." The IRGC declared control over the strait on the 28th of last month, when airstrikes by the US and the State of Israel began.
