Hyundai Motor America reported that its U.S. sales in February totaled 65,677 units. This was a 6% increase from a year earlier and the highest February figure on record.
With this result, Hyundai Motor America has now set a new monthly sales record for three consecutive months, following December last year and January this year. Sport utility vehicles (SUVs) such as the Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Palisade, and Hyundai Kona accounted for most of the total sales. Sales of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) models jumped 79%, while electric vehicles (EVs) rose 6%, both marking record February volumes. Combined sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), hybrids, and EVs reached 22,357 units, up 56% from a year earlier.
Randy Parker, Head of Hyundai Motor North America Region, said, "Setting a new monthly sales record for three consecutive months reflects the strength of Hyundai Motor Company’s lineup and the growing trust customers have in our brand."
Kia America also achieved its best-ever February performance, selling 66,005 vehicles last month, a 4% increase from a year earlier. Kia Corporation had already set an all-time monthly sales record in January.
Sales of hybrid models surged 53% year-on-year, driving Kia’s record February results. By model, the Kia Telluride sold 13,198 units, up 37% from a year earlier, marking its highest monthly sales ever.
Sales of other models such as the Kia Carnival (up 31%), Kia K5 (up 21%), and Kia Niro (up 20%) also increased significantly. The Kia Carnival, Kia Sportage, and Kia K4 all recorded their highest February sales on record.
Eric Watson, Vice President of Sales Operations, Kia America, explained, "Kia’s sales momentum in the U.S. market is accelerating further," adding, "The Kia Telluride has been a core model leading the Kia brand in the United States, and with the launch of the second-generation model, it has set a new all-time monthly sales record, further solidifying its leadership in the segment."
