[The Financial News] A teenage girl who dreamed of becoming a social worker has become a star in the sky after giving six people a new life through brain-death organ donation.
According to the Korea Organ Donation Agency on the 3rd, 16-year-old Park Chae-yeon donated her heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and both eyes at Ajou University Hospital on December 16 last year, saving six lives before she passed away.
On December 14 last year, Park was on her way to a relative’s wedding with her family when their car was hit by a vehicle driven by a drowsy driver. She was rushed to the hospital but never regained consciousness and was later declared brain-dead.
Her family decided on donation because, rather than letting their daughter go just like that at such a young age, they hoped that at least a part of her could go on living and breathing in others.
Born as an only daughter in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, Park was said to have been active and cheerful from a young age.
In high school, she was diligent enough to be elected class president and student council president every year, and she was also passionate about her studies.
Park also had a warm heart that led her to reach out first to friends in need, even if it was just with a small act of help. Wanting to support people who needed her, she dreamed of becoming a social worker.
Her father, Park Wan-jae, said in his final farewell, "My beloved Chae-yeon, your mom and I were so happy for every moment we spent with you. Even now, we still can’t believe you’re not here beside us. Can you hear Mom and Dad’s voices from heaven? We miss you every single day. I hope the people who received the gift of new life from you will stay healthy. To our kindest and most lovable daughter, Chae-yeon. I hope you will come back as my daughter again in your next life."
