According to Financial News, there is growing expectation that Ukraine will support Gulf countries seeking to fend off drone attacks from the Islamic Republic of Iran (Iran).
On the 2nd, the British daily The Guardian reported that Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer stressed that the UK would not take part in attacks on Iran but would continue defensive measures in the region. He said, "We will deploy Ukrainian experts alongside us to help our allies in the Gulf region shoot down Iranian drones that are attacking their countries."
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also noted in a speech on the night of the 1st that Russia heavily relies on Iranian-made weapons in its war against Ukraine. He said that, based on this experience, European allies would be able to help defend against Iranian drones and missiles.
According to the Kyiv Post, President Zelensky said, "The situation in the Middle East shows how difficult it is to defend 100% against missiles and Shahed drones, even for Gulf countries that have far superior air defenses compared with ours." He pointed out, "They still fail to intercept every ballistic missile, and there are Shahed drones that the region’s air defenses do not stop."
He went on to say, "We are ready to share our experience in countering drones, and we are willing to support the countries that helped us last winter and throughout this war."
According to President Zelensky, since Russia invaded Ukraine four years ago, it has launched more than 57,000 drones at Ukraine, including Iranian-made Shahed drones and Russian Geran drones, which are modified versions of the Shahed.
Ukraine has been accelerating the development and production of interceptor drones to counter Russia’s drone strikes.
