According to The Financial News, the National Tax Service (NTS) said on the 1st, "We would like to once again offer our deepest apologies to the public for the concern caused by the recent virtual asset leak."
The NTS went on to explain, "On February 26, during a briefing on the results of an on-site search of a delinquent taxpayer, an incident occurred in which the taxpayer's virtual asset information was leaked."
The NTS stated, "This incident occurred because we carelessly provided the original photo to the media without realizing that it contained sensitive virtual asset information. This is entirely the fault of the NTS, with no excuse."
The agency added, "As soon as we confirmed that coins had been transferred out of the delinquent taxpayer's wallet, we began tracing the outflow using our in-house virtual asset tracking program, and we requested an investigation by the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA). We are doing everything possible to recover the leaked virtual assets."
The NTS continued, "Taking this incident as a lesson, we will commission an external review of our overall security system and strengthen internal controls, including prior reviews, to ensure that sensitive information is not disclosed when materials are made public." It added, "We will comprehensively overhaul our manuals covering every stage of virtual asset seizure, custody, and sale, and reinforce job and security training for staff, in order to establish thorough measures to prevent any recurrence and implement them swiftly."
