[The Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea on the 1st ordered the government to maintain an emergency response posture, led by the Prime Minister, throughout his overseas trip. He directed the relevant ministries to provide constant updates on the situation in the Middle East and its economic impact, and to report on the government’s response. He particularly stressed that every possible measure must be taken to ensure the safety of Korean nationals abroad.
Spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong of Cheong Wa Dae (the Blue House) announced this in a press notice the same day.
She added, "Even while the President is on an overseas tour, he has instructed the government to maintain an emergency response system centered on the Prime Minister, and to provide frequent reports on developments in the Middle East and their economic impact while responding accordingly."
Earlier in the day, Cheong Wa Dae stated regarding the death of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei that it is "closely monitoring related developments and taking a range of measures to ensure the safety of our nationals overseas." It went on to say, "We hope stability and peace in the Middle East can be restored as soon as possible."
