Financial News – The fallout from the worsening situation in the Middle East has reached Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A fire broke out at the Burj Al Arab, and Dubai International Airport (DXB), one of the world's largest hub airports, was closed, bringing all flight operations to a halt.
The Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) announced on X (formerly Twitter) on the 1st local time that a fire had broken out at the Burj Al Arab, a landmark hotel in Dubai, in the early hours of the morning.
It stated, "One drone was intercepted, and its debris struck the exterior of the Burj Al Arab, causing a small fire," adding, "Firefighters responded swiftly and extinguished the blaze, and there were no casualties."
The media office also noted that there was minor damage to one of the halls at DXB and that immediate measures were taken. It added, "All passengers at the airport were safely evacuated at the time of the incident, and four staff members were injured and are receiving treatment."
Dubai International Airport (DXB), which has served as one of the world's busiest airports and a major global hub, was completely shut down the previous day for safety reasons. As a result, Emirates and all other UAE-based airlines suspended their flights.
After airstrikes by the United States and Israel the previous day, the Islamic Republic of Iran launched a large number of drones and missiles targeting U.S. military bases across the Middle East. In Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, one Asian resident was killed after being hit by falling debris.
