According to The Financial News, a serving police officer who had previously been disciplined for misconduct has been booked on suspicion of indecent assault just one month after being reinstated and is now under investigation.
On the 27th, Seogwipo Police Station in Jeju stated that Constable A, a man in his 40s assigned to Seogwipo Police Station, has been booked on charges of indecent assault.
Constable A is suspected of molesting a female employee at an entertainment bar in Yeon-dong, Jeju City, at around 3:15 a.m. on the 25th.
At the time, police received a report that someone was leaving without paying for alcohol. Constable A allegedly refused to pay a bill of 600,000 won and only settled the payment at the scene after officers arrived.
Responding to the report, police were dispatched to the scene and conducted an on-site investigation. Based on the victim employee's statement, they applied the charge of indecent assault to Constable A.
The investigation found that since 2021, Constable A had committed various forms of misconduct, including domestic assault and dine-and-dash, for which he was previously disciplined.
He was reportedly demoted from senior constable to constable as a result of that disciplinary action.
Disciplinary measures for police officers are divided into severe sanctions such as dismissal, removal from office, demotion, and suspension, and lighter sanctions such as pay cuts and reprimands.
Constable A, who returned to duty after being disciplined, is reported to have been booked again for a new offense just one month after his reinstatement.
The police are conducting an internal audit to determine the exact circumstances of the case.
