KOSPI touches 6,100 intraday as semiconductors and autos rally [FN Afternoon Market Report]

According to The Financial News, the KOSPI is setting a new record as it moves above the 6,100 level during intraday trading. Not only semiconductor stocks but also auto names such as Hyundai Motor are gaining strongly, adding momentum to the record-high rally.
As of 2:20 p.m. on the 25th, the KOSPI was trading at 6,116.26, up 146.62 points, or 2.46%, from the previous session.
The index opened at 6,022.70, up 0.89% from the previous close, and crossed the 6,000 mark right after the market opened. In the afternoon, it extended its gains and climbed as high as 6,144.71.
In the Korea Exchange Securities Market (KOSPI market), retail investors and institutions are net buyers of 354 billion won and 882.1 billion won, respectively. Foreign investors are showing net selling of 1.4269 trillion won.
By sector, construction (7.38%), metals (6.15%), and insurance (5.27%) are showing strong gains, while pharmaceuticals (-0.77%), medical and precision instruments (-0.76%), and entertainment and culture (-0.62%) are weaker.
Among large-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics was trading at 204,000 won, up 2.0% from the previous session, and SK hynix at 1,022,000 won, up 1.69%. Buying interest has gathered after Anthropic announced partnership news with software companies on the New York stock market overnight, easing concerns that artificial intelligence (AI) will erode existing industries, and ahead of Nvidia’s earnings release scheduled for early the next morning Korea time.
Hyundai Motor and Kia have surged 10.11% and 13.56%, respectively, standing out among large-cap gainers. Kia is rallying on news that cumulative production at Kia’s Georgia plant in the United States has surpassed 5 million vehicles, while Hyundai Motor is jumping on renewed momentum in its robotics business.
LG Energy Solution (3.15%), Samsung Biologics (0.23%), and Doosan Enerbility (2.37%) are also trading firmly higher.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ Index was at 1,164.94, down 0.06 points, or 0.01%, from the previous session. The index opened at 1,174.27, up 9.27 points, or 0.8%, from the previous close and has since been moving in a narrow range around the flat line.
In the KOSDAQ market, retail investors alone are net buyers of 482.3 billion won. Foreign investors and institutions are net sellers of 338.1 billion won and 102.8 billion won, respectively.
