[Financial News] KT Corporation (KT), SK Broadband and LG Uplus, the three major internet TV (IPTV) providers, announced on the 25th that they have launched an "IPTV VOD gift voucher" that can be used on any of their platforms.
Until now, VOD gift vouchers could only be used by subscribers of the issuing IPTV provider, which limited how they could be given or used. The new voucher can be registered on any IPTV platform: KT's "Genie TV," SK Broadband's "B tv" and LG Uplus's "U+tv." Once customers enter the voucher number in the IPTV menu, it is converted into a payment method on each platform and can be used to watch VOD content such as movies and dramas.
The three IPTV companies chose not to restrict voucher use to a specific provider. Instead, a single voucher can be registered and used on whichever IPTV platform the customer prefers. They explained that this approach enhances the voucher's versatility and simplifies the user process.
The three IPTV providers also plan to gradually expand the voucher's distribution channels. From today, corporate customers can purchase vouchers for giveaways or employee benefits through "Giftishow Biz." For general consumers, sales will be rolled out sequentially via online channels such as "Gmarket" and "11st." To mark the launch of the IPTV VOD gift voucher, a one-month 20% discount promotion will run on the corporate-only channel "Giftishow Biz" until March 24. The vouchers come in a total of five denominations, including a 5,500 won option.
Kang Yoon-mook, Secretary General of the Korea IPTV Broadcasting Association, said, "The IPTV VOD gift voucher will significantly help expand IPTV VOD usage and improve access to digital content," adding, "The three IPTV providers will continue to strengthen their cooperation to enhance viewing convenience and service quality in line with the changing media environment."
