According to The Financial News, an expert has concluded that in the "Gangbuk Motel Serial Murders," the suspect first used her boyfriend as a "test subject" before moving on to full-scale killings.
Professor Oh Yoon-sung of the Department of Police Administration at Soonchunhyang University (SCH) said in an interview on CBS Christian Broadcasting Radio's "Park Sung-tae's News Show" on the 24th that the first crime in the "Gangbuk Motel Serial Murders" was "an experiment on her boyfriend to test how well the method worked." He explained that after realizing, "When I gave him the drug, he was incapacitated for about four hours," she then proceeded to commit full-fledged murder.
The suspect, A, a woman in her 20s, was placed under arrest and referred to prosecutors on the 19th on charges of giving drinks mixed with psychotropic medication to three men in their 20s, causing death or injury. The first target, her boyfriend B, lost consciousness after drinking the beverage and was taken to a hospital, where he recovered. Investigators believe that A then carried out a second and third offense using the same method.
The later victims all died. Professor Oh noted, "For the second crime, she targeted men who responded to her messages and came to meet her," adding that "they were, in fact, even better prey for A." The third crime is believed to have been committed after A had already emerged as a suspect. Professor Oh pointed out, "Since she knew the police had already identified her, she may have decided to commit at least one more crime."
As for her motive, he analyzed it as "an extremely distorted manifestation of a desire to manipulate and control human relationships." Citing the facts that A dropped out of middle school, was expelled from high school, and that acquaintances said she "had a habit of stealing" and "stirred up conflict among people around her," he explained that "a type of impulse control disorder can be suspected."
Professor Oh also said, "Given the variety of drugs seized by police during the search and seizure, it is reasonable to suspect that she was preparing for additional crimes as well."
A is currently under prosecution investigation on charges of murder, aggravated bodily injury, and violating the Narcotics Control Act involving psychotropic substances.
