According to the fire department and the Gangnam-gu Office on the 24th, the fire started at around 6:18 a.m. on the eighth floor of the 14-story Eunma Town Apartments. Firefighters were dispatched immediately after the report and carried out firefighting operations.
The fire left one teenage girl dead and three people injured. One of the injured suffered facial burns, while the other two were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. The exact condition of those with smoke inhalation injuries has not yet been confirmed.
The blaze was brought under initial control at around 6:48 a.m. and was completely extinguished by 7:36 a.m. A total of 166 personnel and 45 units of equipment were mobilized in the firefighting operation.
About 70 residents who were at the scene at the time of the fire are believed to have evacuated on their own.
The fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
