According to The Financial News, a well-known influencer with over 12 million followers has come under fire after uploading footage of his wife’s 23-hour-long childbirth to the internet.
The video shows his wife groaning in pain from postpartum bleeding, and parts of her body are exposed without being blurred.
On the 23rd, South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that the man, born in 1990 and active under the name "Paul in USA," graduated from Columbia University and now lives in Seattle.
He previously worked as a product manager at Microsoft. Around February 2019, he began posting videos of his daily life online.
With the unique concept of being a "Microsoft product manager who speaks a northeastern Chinese dialect," he went viral and, as of February 2026, has amassed more than 12.2 million followers.
Recently, he shared a video documenting his wife’s labor and revealed that her contractions lasted 23 hours, which triggered a wave of criticism. During childbirth, his wife suffered a third-degree perineal tear, one of the more severe levels, and lost as much as 3,344 milliliters of blood due to postpartum hemorrhaging.
After emergency surgery and blood transfusions, both the mother and their newborn daughter were reported to have recovered. However, the man was condemned for his inappropriate behavior. The video included his wife’s naked body, and he kept filming even while the medical emergency was unfolding.
At one point in the video, he even reads out diaper advertising copy, effectively turning it into a promotional segment. The exact amount of advertising revenue he earned is unknown. As the backlash intensified, he deleted the video.
In the end, his account was suspended for "violating platform policies."
As public criticism mounted, his wife posted on Social Network Service (SNS) on the 10th, saying, "We wanted to document the childbirth process as it really happened," and added, "We did not expect complications to arise during filming, but we still felt it was important to share the video."
She continued, "Some people said this program helped them better understand the risks and unpredictability of childbirth," and added, "Not every birth goes smoothly, and some deliveries are extremely dangerous."
Online users argued that he exploited his wife’s suffering to drive up views. Comments included reactions such as, "It’s shocking that he kept filming and even ran ads while her life was in danger."
