[Financial News] The National Folk Museum of Korea announced on the 23rd that it will hold a "Byeongo Year Jeongwol Daeboreum Festival" on March 2.
Jeongwol Daeboreum, the 15th day of the first lunar month, is the day of the first full moon of the year. In agrarian society, it marked the beginning of the farming year and was an important seasonal festival. People watched the rising full moon together, made wishes, and enjoyed customs such as burning a straw "moon house" and flying kites.
Visitors can experience the traditions of Jeongwol Daeboreum by hanging wish papers with their hopes for the year on the sacred straw rope around the moon house installed in the museum lobby. They can also make protective kites meant to drive away misfortune, create protective straw effigies called "jeung," or watch videos introducing customs related to the First Full Moon Festival.
At 2 p.m. on the day of the event, a jisinbalgi performance accompanied by Nongak will take place in the front yard of the museum.
Further details are available on the museum’s website.
