KOSPI Tops 5,900 for First Time on Retail Buying, Hits Intraday High of 5,931.86

The Financial News – On the 23rd, the KOSPI index broke above the 5,900 mark for the first time ever, supported by strong buying from individual investors.
As of 9:49 a.m., the KOSPI was trading at 5,895.91, up 87.38 points, or 1.50%, from the previous session.
The index opened at 5,903.11, up 94.58 points (1.63%) from the previous day, and touched an all-time intraday high of 5,931.86 at around 9:04 a.m.
In the main stock market, while foreign investors and institutions were net sellers of 361.1 billion won and 49.7 billion won, respectively, individual investors were net buyers of 396.9 billion won.
Among the top 14 stocks by market capitalization, Hyundai Motor Company (up 4.03%), Samsung Electronics (up 3.00%), SK hynix (up 2.32%), and Kia (up 1.40%) were leading the gains.
By contrast, KB Financial Group (down 1.66%), Hanwha Aerospace (down 1.21%), and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (down 1.16%) were weaker.
The KOSDAQ Index was trading at 1,166.94, up 12.94 points, or 1.12%, from the previous session. It opened the day at 1,154.43, up 0.43 points (0.04%).
