Independent lawmaker Kim Byung-ki, who faces a range of allegations including accepting nomination bribes, abuse of power, and granting special favors, is scheduled to be questioned by police on the 27th and 28th.
According to reporting by Financial News on the 22nd, the Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) notified Kim that he must appear as a suspect for questioning on the 26th and 27th. This will be Kim’s first appearance before the police.
Since December last year, police have been investigating 13 cases related to Kim, including alleged abuse of power. Kim is suspected of accepting 30 million won in nomination bribes from former Dongjak District council members, seeking favors to secure a job at a virtual asset exchange for his second son, intervening in his second son’s transfer admission to Soongsil University, and involvement in the misuse of a corporate card by his wife, identified by the surname Lee, at the Dongjak District Council and attempts to have the related investigation dropped.
At a regular briefing held on the 9th, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Park Jeong-bo stated, "We have notified Representative Kim to appear for questioning, and we are coordinating the dates," adding, "We will likely need to summon him several times. There is an extensive amount to investigate."
Police have already summoned Kim’s wife and his close associate Lee Ji-hee, Vice Chairperson of the Dongjak District Council, to question them about the facts surrounding the various allegations.
