[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 22nd that it will handle the motion to arrest its former member, Representative Kang Sun-woo, at the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 24th.
Kim Hyun-jung, a floor spokesperson for the Democratic Party, told reporters after a general meeting of lawmakers that day, "The motion to arrest Representative Kang Sun-woo is scheduled to be dealt with at the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 24th."
Kang was expelled from the Democratic Party over allegations of receiving 100 million won in nomination bribes, and a warrant for her arrest was issued during the investigation. The motion to arrest was reported to the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 12th, and a vote is scheduled at the first plenary session to be held since then, on the 24th.
Previously, the Democratic Party had said it would not adopt an official party line on whether to support the motion to arrest, noting that Kang is currently an independent, and would instead leave the decision to each lawmaker’s individual judgment. By stating on this day that the motion is "scheduled to be handled," however, the party effectively signaled an intention to cast supporting votes in an indirect manner.
