According to Financial News, the People Power Party on the 21st responded to the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) ruling that President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs were unlawful by saying it "was already entirely predictable" and urged President Lee Jae-myung to come up with countermeasures.
In a commentary issued that day, Park Sung-hoon, the chief spokesperson, pressed President Lee, asking, "Why are you silent on such a critical economic and trade issue?"
Park argued, "For a president responsible for the nation’s economic and industrial strategy, this is a grave matter that requires an immediate response," adding, "Yet President Lee, who should be explaining the situation to the public, clarifying the government’s response, and calming the markets, is strangely quiet."
He went on to say, "Throughout the Lunar New Year holidays, President Lee was busy on social media bashing multi-home owners and stoking divisions among the public. Even today, he finds time to issue de facto guidelines to the media by asking, 'Why are you asking foreign governments about domestic issues?' Yet he keeps his lips tightly sealed in a 'cowardly silence' on matters directly tied to the national interest," again asking, "Why is he silent on such a critical economic and trade issue?"
He continued, "At a time when the global economy is being swept by turbulence, President Lee must stop playing politics and instead prepare practical measures and concrete plans to maximize our national interest," stressing, "Any normal government would have prepared a Plan B and drawn up a response strategy that even takes into account alternative tariff options by the U.S. administration."
