[The Financial News] Broadcaster Park Na-rae, who has been embroiled in allegations of abuse of power and illegal medical procedures, was summoned by police and questioned for many hours before returning home.
According to police on the 21st, Seoul Gangnam Police Station summoned Park the previous day as the accused in a complaint in connection with allegations of aggravated assault and violations of medical law. The questioning began at 3 p.m. and lasted for more than eight hours. This was the first time Park had been questioned as a suspect.
The investigation stems from complaints filed by her former managers. They claimed that Park ordered them to run personal errands and threw a glass at them, causing injury, describing this as so-called "gapjil," or abuse of power, and accused her of aggravated assault and defamation. During this process, allegations also emerged that illegal medical procedures had been carried out through an acquaintance known as the "injection aunt."
Park’s side has in turn filed a counter-complaint against the former managers, accusing them of attempted extortion and occupational embezzlement. Police had earlier summoned the acquaintance referred to as the "injection aunt," surnamed Lee, as well as a former manager, to question them about the facts of the alleged illegal procedures.
After completing the questioning, Park stated, "I cooperated faithfully with the investigation and answered the questions truthfully," adding, "I am sorry for causing concern with my personal issues."
Regarding the abuse-of-power allegations and the claim that she threw a glass, she said, "I believe those matters will be clarified through the investigation in due course," and stressed, "In today’s questioning, we identified what was not true and intend to correct it."
Park then got into a waiting vehicle without giving specific answers to questions about allegations that she paid a salary to her mother and ex-boyfriend, or about the reasons for postponing her questioning schedule. She had been due to appear before police on the 12th of this month, but after news of the summons became public, she requested a change of date, citing health reasons.
Police plan to review the direction of the investigation, including whether to summon her again, based on the content of the questioning conducted that day.
