[The Financial News] A man in his 50s has been arrested by police for threatening a firefighter with a blunt weapon after a fire was put out.
On the 20th, Gimje Police Station in North Jeolla Province announced that it is investigating a man in his 50s, identified only by the surname A, on suspicion of obstructing the performance of special official duties.
According to police, at around 8:00 a.m. the previous day, A went to the Gyodong 119 Fire Emergency Center in Gyo-dong, Gimje City, carrying a blunt weapon and allegedly threatened firefighters there.
The investigation found that on the 12th, A had burned trash in a can near his container home. A nearby resident reported it, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene and extinguished the fire.
Afterward, A went to the 119 Safety Center and demanded that firefighters clean up the remaining dry chemical extinguishing agent used to put out the fire.
A police official stated, "A did not actually swing the blunt weapon, so no firefighters were injured," adding, "However, we determined there is a risk of reoffending and have applied for an arrest warrant."
