KOSPI tops 5,800 for first time ever on strong institutional buying [fn Afternoon Market]

[Financial News] The KOSPI broke through the 5,800 mark for the first time ever on the 20th, driven by strong institutional buying.
As of 2:32 p.m. that day, the KOSPI was trading at 5,800.97, up 123.72 points (2.18%) from the previous session.
The index opened at 5,696.89, 19.64 points (0.35%) higher than the previous close, and then extended its gains.
The KOSPI first crossed the 5,700 level in the morning session, then surpassed 5,800 at around 1:41 p.m.
It went on to touch an all-time intraday high of 5,806.60 at around 1:50 p.m.
In the domestic main stock market, while retail investors and foreigners sold 581.0 billion won and 813.2 billion won worth of shares, respectively, institutions were net buyers of about 1.2807 trillion won.
Among the top 14 stocks by market capitalization, all were strong except for Celltrion (-1.43%), Hyundai Motor (-0.78%), LG Energy Solution (-0.74%), and Samsung Electronics (-0.03%). Hanwha Aerospace jumped 7.92%, followed by SK hynix (6.15%), Doosan Enerbility (5.18%), and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (5.05%) with large gains. The KOSDAQ Index was trading at 1,152.67, down 8.04 points (0.69%) from the previous session. The index opened at 1,161.40, up 0.69 points (0.06%), but later reversed into negative territory.
