Financial News: After People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk issued a message refusing to sever ties with former President Yoon Suk Yeol and the pro-Yoon "Yoon Again" faction, former party leader Han Dong-hoon countered on the 20th, saying, "To rebuild the conservative camp, we must cut off Jang Dong-hyuk." His remarks are widely seen as a declaration that he will seek to oust Jang from the leadership.
That day, Han wrote on social media, "The day after former President Yoon was sentenced to life imprisonment on insurrection charges, Jang declared, 'We are Yoon Suk Yeol,' making Yoon’s political line unmistakably clear."
He condemned Jang’s message as "a path that will destroy the conservative camp and the People Power Party," arguing, "Jang is merely a host for the pro-Yoon faction and is nothing on his own."
Han went on, "If Jang cuts ties with Yoon, the conservative camp can survive, but he himself would be finished, so he cannot break away," adding, "To save himself alone, he is selling out the party and the conservative cause."
Earlier that same day, Jang held a press briefing at the National Assembly and commented on the first-trial ruling that sentenced former President Yoon to life imprisonment on insurrection charges. He said that because it is only a first-instance verdict, the presumption of innocence must still apply, and he declared a break with forces demanding a complete severance from Yoon. Regarding the first-trial decision that "martial law is tantamount to insurrection," he also reaffirmed the People Power Party’s position that "martial law is not insurrection."
