[Financial News] Nvidia is reportedly in talks to invest up to 30 billion dollars (about 44 trillion won) in OpenAI.
On the 19th (local time), Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) reported that if this funding round goes through, it could value the privately held OpenAI at around 730 billion dollars (about 1,058 trillion won).
According to a source who requested anonymity, the 30 billion dollar investment would be separate from the 100 billion dollar infrastructure partnership the two companies announced in September last year.
In particular, this investment is said to be proceeding regardless of the rollout of specific technologies or the achievement of particular milestones.
The Financial Times (FT) reported that the 30 billion dollar figure has not been finalized and could still change.
In November last year, Nvidia stated after releasing its quarterly report that there was no guarantee it would invest in OpenAI.
However, Sam Altman, OpenAI's chief executive officer (CEO), and Jensen Huang, Nvidia's CEO, have both indicated that the investment plan could move forward as scheduled.
CNBC reported that the funding is likely to be carried out in two stages: first with participation from strategic investors such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Nvidia, followed by a broader group of investors joining in a subsequent phase.
