The Olympic journey of the Korean women’s curling team “5G” has come to an end.
The Korean women’s curling team, consisting of skip Kim Eun-ji, third Kim Min-ji, second Kim Su-ji, and lead Seol Ye-eun, lost 7–10 to Canada in their final round-robin game on the 20th (Korea time) at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. With the defeat, they failed to advance to the semifinals, which are contested by the top four teams.
Korea finished the preliminary round with a record of five wins and four losses, placing fifth among the 10 teams at this tournament and missing out on a semifinal berth awarded to the top four. Advancing to the four-team knockout stage were No. 1 Sweden (7–2), No. 2 United States, No. 3 Switzerland, and No. 4 Canada (all three at 6–3).
The team opened the tournament with a 4–8 loss to the United States, but bounced back by beating Italy 7–2 and Great Britain 9–3 before slipping to a 3–6 defeat against Denmark. They then defeated Japan 7–5 and China 10–9 in succession, lost 5–7 to Switzerland, and revived their semifinal hopes with an 8–3 victory over powerhouse Sweden.
However, the barrier posed by world No. 2 Canada proved too high. Trailing 0–2, Korea rallied with three points in the third end to take the lead, but they surrendered a costly four points in the pivotal sixth end and never recovered. Korea fought back with a single point in the seventh end and two more in the ninth, yet ultimately fell 7–10.
