[Financial News] The Public Information Office of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office of the Republic of Korea (SPO) announced on the 19th that the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office has recovered all of the approximately 320 stolen bitcoins.
According to prosecutors, the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office quickly identified the wallet to which the stolen bitcoins were ultimately transferred immediately after it became aware of the theft on January 16. It then set up an automatic notification system for any new transactions from that wallet and, through real-time monitoring and optimal freezing measures, blocked any transactions via domestic and overseas exchanges at the source.
Prosecutors also carried out a wide-ranging follow-up investigation, including probes into the operators of the phishing site and companies involved in domain registration. Through these measures, they succeeded in recovering the entire amount of the stolen bitcoins.
Earlier, the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office had 320 bitcoins seized in a gambling-site case stolen last August after accessing a phishing site. In connection with this incident, no suspects have yet been arrested and no insiders have been booked.
An SPO official stated, "We will continue to conduct a strict investigation to fully uncover the circumstances of the case."
