[Financial News] Jung Won-oh, a leading Seoul mayoral contender from the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 19th that the first-instance ruling on former president Yoon Suk Yeol for the charge of leading an insurrection "reaffirmed the principles of the Constitution and the rule of law."
Posting on social media the same day, Jung wrote, "Today’s first-instance ruling is a result in which the judicial process has reflected the will of the people," adding, "On the night of the insurrection, the will of the citizens who took to the streets without fear was clear. The power of the sovereign people is great."
On that day, Judge Ji Gui-yeon of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced former president Yoon to life imprisonment, ruling that the charge of leading an insurrection was established in connection with the December 3 emergency martial law incident.
