[Financial News] On the 19th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon addressed the first-instance court ruling that former President Yoon Suk Yeol was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of leading an insurrection, saying, "I once again bow my head in deep apology to the people who had to endure unexpected shock and confusion due to the declaration of martial law." He went on to stress that the People Power Party must cut ties with the former president if it is to regain the public’s trust.
Oh stated on social media that he felt "devastated, as a member of the party that produced this president, in the face of the Judiciary’s grave sentence."
He added, "Some people ask how long we are going to keep apologizing," and continued, "If the people can accept the sincerity of our reflection and repentance, if their disappointment and anger toward the People Power Party can melt away, then I will personally take the hand of each and every person and say it a hundred times, a thousand times over."
He went on, "Some say that talking about breaking with Yoon only creates division," but argued, "This is not division; it is a process of cutting out a festering wound so that new flesh can grow."
He said, "Breaking with Yoon is a path conservatives cannot avoid. However painful it may be, I will continue down that road," adding, "Together with the capable candidates running in Seoul and the greater Seoul metropolitan area, I have a responsibility to win the people’s mandate and open a new path for the conservative camp."
Oh wrote, "We do not have much time left. No matter how difficult it may be, I will firmly carry out the role entrusted to me so that the People Power Party can once again stand before the public in a changed form and be fairly judged on its true capabilities. I believe that is the only way for conservatives to once again earn the people’s choice."
