[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung stated on the 19th, in connection with his vision for the maritime capital, Busan, that "in addition to establishing the Southeast Region Investment Corporation, the relocation of HMM Company Limited (HMM) will also take place soon."
On X (formerly Twitter) that day, President Lee quoted a post by Representative Jeon Jae-soo of the Democratic Party of Korea and wrote, "Following the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) and the establishment of an Admiralty Court, we will not only launch the Southeast Region Investment Corporation but also proceed soon with the relocation of HMM."
He then added, "A great transformation of the Republic of Korea, balanced regional development! When we say we’ll do it, we do it! The Republic of Korea delivers!"
In the post by Representative Jeon that Lee cited, Jeon predicted that "public institutions under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) will move to Busan in the future" and that "more major shipping companies like HMM will come to Busan." Jeon also wrote that "a Southeast Region Investment Corporation with 50 trillion won in investment capital will be established" and stressed that the trend of concentrating administrative, judicial, corporate, and financial functions in the maritime capital, Busan, must continue.
In a separate post, Jeon referred to public sentiment in Busan during the Lunar New Year holidays and said there is strong demand to push forward, thoroughly and at speed, the changes set in motion by the relocation of MOF to Busan. He added a message expressing the hope that Busan will become "a city bustling with people, overflowing with quality jobs, and full of new opportunities springing up everywhere."
