[Financial News] Cho Kuk, leader of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, has called for the introduction of an Anglo-American jury system.
On the 19th, Cho shared on his Facebook page a news report about a caregiver in her 50s who was fined after picking up a card wallet.
Cho wrote, "I only just came across this news from ten days ago," and shared an article reporting that a caregiver in her 50s became a criminal after returning a card wallet.
He went on to explain, "A caregiver in her 50s picked up a card wallet and put it into a mailbox near where it was found. She had spent money on transportation to get there, so she took out 2,000 won as 'travel expenses' and then mailed it. When the owner was located, she returned the 2,000 won through an investigator. Nevertheless, the Seoul Southern District Court sentenced her to a 50,000 won fine."
Cho commented, "This makes me think again about the not-guilty verdict regarding the 5 billion won severance payment to Kwak Sang-do's son," and questioned, "Are verdicts really handed down according to the same standard for everyone? Do judges really rule without prejudice?"
He then stressed, "This once again confirms the need to introduce an Anglo-American jury system and a German-style lay judge system, under which ordinary citizens sit as members of the court, handle questions of fact and law with the same authority as judges, and also take part in sentencing decisions."
