According to Financial News, People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk wrote on his Facebook page on the 17th, "It is truly pitiful and worrying to see a president who blindly labels multiple-home owners as a social evil and devotes himself to agitation on social media."
In the same post, Jang argued, "There is no trace of the dignity befitting a head of state and the head of the executive branch. Instead, he only comes across as an 'election broker' who divides the people into haves and have-nots just to win a few more votes in local elections."
He went on, "Even in the midst of a demographic crisis, ordinary people in the provinces who keep their family homes and care for their elderly mothers are not speculators. They are patriots who support the local economy with their whole lives," adding, "Demonizing these people and playing a numbers game to stoke public resentment is nothing more than low-level politics."
Jang then said, "Isn't it the case that the president himself owns a Bundang redevelopment 'lottery' apartment that is expected to yield a 5 billion won capital gain after he leaves office?" He continued, "If those at the top are clutching a lottery ticket, why would those below sell their homes? Please first tell us what you intend to do with your own 'lottery' apartment."
Jang had also clashed with President Lee over policy on multiple-home owners on the 16th, the day before Lunar New Year.
President Lee posted on X (formerly Twitter) a news article titled "Opposition: 'President Lee should sell his Bundang apartment and buy stocks' Ruling party: 'Jang Dong-hyuk owns six homes'" and asked Jang for his views on regulations targeting multiple-home owners.
In response, Jang wrote on Facebook, "Because of what the president posted, my elderly mother is deeply worried," adding, "Because of the president, an unfilial son is in tears at the very start of the new year."
