[Financial News] On the 13th, President Lee Jae-myung stated, "Even for the sake of addressing the national task of stabilizing housing prices, there is a problem with granting financial benefits for acquiring multiple homes used not for one’s own residence but for investment or speculation."
In the early hours of the same day, President Lee posted on X (formerly Twitter) under the title, "What should we do when existing loans for multi-home owners reach maturity?" and delivered this message.
President Lee wrote, "It may be difficult and painful, but like all areas of administration, finance must also be just and fair," adding, "That is why current loan regulations for multi-home owners are very strict."
He continued, "We have given several years of opportunity, even cutting capital gains taxes, yet some have held on to their multiple homes without reducing them. When their loans mature, is it fair to grant only them additional benefits by extending those loans?" He stressed, "People who follow the rules and respect social order must not be put at a disadvantage compared with those who seek unfair gains and break the rules."
President Lee went on, "I have a message for those who still think that if they just hold out, things will work out in their favor," saying, "The Republic of Korea is now moving toward a normal society where common sense and order are being restored."
He added, "At the core of a normal society is ensuring that decent people who obey the rules do not suffer losses, and that those who break the rules cannot profit," emphasizing, "In a democratic society, fairness is the driving force behind growth and development."
