\r\n[Financial News] The Seoul Central District Court has designated Presiding Judge Jang Sung-hoon and others to serve on dedicated insurrection trial panels.
According to the legal community on the 12th, the Seoul Central District Court selected two dedicated trial panels and two judges in charge of warrants by drawing lots from among six candidate panels.
\r\nOne of the two dedicated panels consists of Presiding Judges Yoon Sung-sik (30th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), Oh Chang-seop (32nd class), and Ryu Chang-sung (33rd class). The other panel is made up of Presiding Judges Jang Sung-jin (31st class), Jung Soo-young (32nd class), and Choi Young-gak (34th class).
\r\nIn these panels, three judges sit in co-equal positions, jointly conducting hearings and deliberations, with the role of presiding judge rotating from case to case.
\r\nThe judges in charge of warrants are Presiding Judges Lee Jong-rok (32nd class) and Choi Young-gak (34th class).
\r\nThese panels are a follow-up measure under the "Special Act on Criminal Procedure for Crimes of Insurrection, Foreign Aggression, and Rebellion" (also known as the Special Act on Dedicated Insurrection Trial Panels), which was passed at the initiative of the Democratic Party of Korea and other ruling-party lawmakers. Earlier, through two rounds of meetings, the Seoul Central District Court had decided to designate two panels and two presiding judges in charge of warrants as dedicated insurrection trial panels and warrant judges, respectively.
The dedicated insurrection trial panels are scheduled to begin full operations on the 23rd, the date of the regular judicial personnel reshuffle.
