[Financial News] Samsung Electronics has begun mass production and shipment of HBM4, the world’s first high bandwidth memory (HBM) of this class, which delivers the highest performance in the industry. With this move, the company is making a full-scale push to secure leadership in the HBM4 market.
On the 12th, Samsung Electronics announced that it had started mass shipment of HBM4. From the outset of development, the company set performance targets that exceed the standards of the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) and has pushed development accordingly. It explained that by proactively adopting its most advanced 1c DRAM (sixth-generation 10-nanometer-class) process for this product, it secured stable yields and industry-leading performance from the early stage of mass production without any redesign.
Hwang Sang-joon, executive vice president in charge of memory development at Samsung Electronics, said, "Samsung Electronics’ HBM4 breaks with the past practice of using only previously verified processes and instead applies cutting-edge processes such as 1c DRAM and a 4-nanometer foundry base die." He added, "By fully securing headroom for performance scaling through process competitiveness and design improvements, we have been able to meet customers’ demands for higher performance in a timely manner."
