On the 12th, the Seoul Northern District Court's Single-Judge Criminal Division 10, presided over by Judge Choi Ki-won, held a pretrial detention hearing (warrant review) for A, a woman in her 20s charged with causing bodily injury resulting in death and violating the Narcotics Control Act, and then issued a detention warrant. The court cited a 'risk of flight' as the reason for the decision.
A is suspected of handing drinks mixed with drugs to three men in their 20s in the areas of Gangbuk District in Seoul and Namyangju in Gyeonggi Province between December last year and February this year, causing the deaths of two of them and injuring one.
A appeared at the court at about 9:55 a.m., wearing a cap pulled low and a mask. She walked into the building without answering reporters' questions about whether she had prepared the drugs in advance, why she gave the drugs to the victims, whether she intended to kill them, and what relationship she had with the deceased.
According to police, A claims she did not intend to kill the victims. She reportedly told investigators that, after conflicts arose with the men, she put medication she normally takes into their drinks to make them sleep. However, police are investigating the case on the assumption that it may have been a premeditated crime, noting that A prepared the drug-laced drinks at home before meeting the victims.
