Former Seoul Metropolitan Council member Kim Kyung, who is under police investigation over allegations of nomination kickbacks and lobbying, stated that she will "wait for the truth to be revealed through the investigation and trial."
Kim's legal team issued a statement on the 12th, saying, "We bow our heads in apology for having intensified social confusion and caused deep concern to the public," adding, "She is currently laying everything down and spending her days in a state of reflection and repentance."
Explaining why she did not respond immediately to media inquiries, the statement noted that this was because "we did not want each individual remark to become a new spark for further conflict." It continued, "We have disclosed all the facts we know to the investigative authorities and submitted the relevant materials," and added, "We hope to put an end to wasteful disputes and have the truth clearly established through the judgment of the law."
Regarding the claims made by Representative Kang Sun-woo, the former council member expressed regret. Kim's side said, "We find it unfortunate that assertions that do not match the facts continue to be repeated," but added, "Rather than engaging in a back-and-forth by responding to each claim one by one, we will wait for the court's judgment." The statement went on to stress, "We have maintained a consistent position, in line with the spirit of repentance pledged when drafting the written confession."
The former council member said, "There is nothing more to hide, nor any reason to hide anything," and added, "I will faithfully comply with the remaining procedures, and if there are any parts that are lacking, I will explain them and willingly accept responsibility where it is due." She concluded, "I will humbly wait for the court's decision."
Meanwhile, police are investigating allegations that Kim handed 100 million won to Representative Kang Sun-woo's side during the 2022 local elections, as well as suspicions of 130 million won in proxy "split donations" during the Gangseo District mayoral by-election. Investigators are analyzing more than 120 recordings from the so-called "Golden PC," a computer seized from a policy aide, to trace possible cash transfers to political figures and the flow of funds. Based on witness statements and collected evidence, police are considering how to handle the legal status of Kim and others allegedly involved.
