According to Financial News, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon said on the 11th that the findings of the joint public-private investigation into the Coupang data breach incident announced the previous day were "fully agreed upon in advance and shared with Coupang Korea before being made public."
The previous day, Coupang, Inc., Coupang’s U.S. parent company, had rebutted the government’s findings on the Coupang data breach. It argued that the actual number of records accessed and stored was smaller than what the investigation concluded.
Regarding this, Bae said, "The contents we announced were agreed upon with Coupang Korea, yet the U.S. headquarters is saying something different," adding, "We are responding based on objective facts."
He went on to stress, "What is important in the Coupang incident is that an insider with the key leaked the information," and added, "The subsequent process, including Coupang’s delayed reporting and deletion of data, is also a serious problem."
He also said, "We need a precise investigation and response to the rebuttals being made about the number of leaked records," and added, "There will be follow-up actions by the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) and the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC), and we will make sure the matter is not overlooked."
