[Financial News] The near-frenzied popularity of the "Dubai Chewy Cookie," better known as "Dujjonku," has cooled, but the stories it spawned are still circulating online. Recently, a wave of posts has appeared under the keyword "Dujjonku breakup."
According to Seoul Shinmun on the 8th, a post titled "I broke up because of Dujjonku" was uploaded last month to Jjukbbang Cafe, a Daum Cafe community that only women can join. The story was later shared widely across multiple online communities.
The poster, identified as A, wrote, "When Dujjonku first became a trend, I kept saying, 'Buy one for me too,' and my boyfriend just said, 'Okay,' but in the end he never bought it for me."
She continued, "Then today he went to a gathering and texted me, saying, 'Someone brought Dujjonku, so we're eating it now.' I asked, 'So when are you going to buy it for me?' and he ignored my question and just said, 'It’s not even good.' I couldn’t believe I couldn’t even get one Dujjonku out of him, so I told him we should break up."
A’s case was not the only so-called "Dujjonku breakup." Some readers who saw the post commented that they had broken up for similar reasons or were considering ending their relationships over it.
Comments included, "I’m thinking about breaking up. My boyfriend said he’d do better, so I told him I wanted to try Dujjonku. But over two weeks he only went to one cafe a few times, then said, 'They don’t have it,' and I completely lost interest in him," and, "If you’ve ever actually tried to buy Dujjonku, you’ll know there are a lot of guys lining up to get it for their girlfriends. That’s why I also lost all feelings for the guy I was seeing."
One commenter confessed, "I broke up too. We were in a long-distance relationship, and when I told him I couldn’t buy Dujjonku where I live, he said, 'I’ll buy it for you, so come down.' But when I actually went, he clearly had no intention of buying it, so I ended up going to get it by myself."
Another user shared, "Other boyfriends stand in line to buy it when their girlfriends say they want to try it, but when mine saw the long line outside the cafe, he just said, 'Don’t you have the ingredients at home?' and walked past. The thought of breaking up with him only got stronger today."
On the other hand, some criticized the women who said they were considering a "Dujjonku breakup."
Reactions included, "You’re not pregnant; you can just buy it yourself," and, "If he’s getting dumped over something like that, the guy is better off."
