[Financial News] Google submitted supplementary documents on January 5 in response to the government's request regarding the overseas transfer of high-precision maps.
According to the information technology (IT) industry on the 6th, Google emailed supplementary documents to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at around 11 p.m. the previous day, formally requesting approval to export high-precision maps. The government had set January 5 as the deadline for Google to provide the additional documentation.
The documents reportedly accept most of the conditions set by the government, including masking domestic security facilities and restricting the exposure of coordinates. They are also said to contain technical explanations of how the map data will be processed in the future.
However, the documents are reported not to include concrete plans for establishing a data center in Korea.
Based on the additional materials submitted by Google, the government plans to convene the Consultative Body on Overseas Transfer of Survey Data to discuss whether to allow the export of high-precision maps.
