[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung stated at the 12th "Dialogue with Future Scientists," held on the 5th at the State Guest House of Cheong Wa Dae, "Just as President Kim Dae-jung first created the national scholarship system, we are seeking to introduce a national researcher system so that people who devote their entire lives to science and technology research can live proudly and with honor."
Addressing the science scholarship students at the event, President Lee said, "As has recently become evident, science and technology can be described as a nation's capabilities themselves." He continued, "Looking back through history, systems that respected science and technology prospered, while eras that despised them declined. This will not change in the future." He added, "A society that respects and invests in science and technology, and where scientists and engineers are properly recognized, is a society that has a future."
President Lee went on, "South Korea was a country without natural resources or any special inherent strengths, but thanks to investment in education and science and technology, it has become a nation recognized around the world." He said, "The more intense competition becomes between countries, the more a nation's fate is ultimately determined by how outstanding and how advanced its people’s capabilities are." He appealed, "Please continue to do your very best with a sense of responsibility that the fate of South Korea rests in your hands, and with the awareness that this is also extremely important for your own lives."
He also noted, "I now have the opportunity to finally hear directly from you," and said, "If you share your opinions freely and candidly, they will serve as important reference material for national science and technology policy."
